JPMorgan Names New Global Co-Head of Blockchain Division

JPMorgan Chase & Co. has appointed a new global co-head of its blockchain division Kinexys. Based in Edinburgh, Kara Kennedy will lead Kinexys alongside Naveen Mallela, according to a JPMorgan spokesperson. Kennedy will oversee Kinexys Digital Assets, which focuses on asset tokenization, and Kinexys Labs, which helps clients prototype blockchain projects. Mallela, who is based in Singapore, will continue to run the payments divisions, including Kinexys Digital Payments and Kinexys Liink.

JPMorgan Tops Foreign Banks' Earnings in Japan on Deals Boom

JPMorgan Chase & Co. out-earned global rivals in Japan last year after capitalizing on a dealmaking spree fueled by the Asian nation's push to improve corporate governance. Net income at the US lender's local securities subsidiary more than doubled to ¥45.6 billion ($309 million) in the year ended March 31, the highest in at least seven years, according to filings. That marked a rebound from the previous year's retreat, reflecting a jump in merger advisory and underwriting business.

Africa Ends Decade of Debt Distress With Mozambique Spread Fall

For the first time in a decade, no African country has a sovereign risk premium in distress territory. The average additional yield on Mozambique's bonds over US Treasuries fell below 1,000 basis points this month, making it the last country on the continent to retreat from levels widely considered to indicate debt distress. It's the first time since 2015 that no African country has had a four-digit yield spread, according to JPMorgan Chase & Co. data.
